I have found a new love.....

.....and it is spray paint!  I decided to take on 2 pieces of furniture that have just been sitting around our house needing a makeover.  Instead of paint by numbers this post is going to be a paint by pictures.

Here's the before picture of the desk ( I thought I would give you the true before picture when it used to be at T's old house)...

First I knocked out the faux wood backing, lightly sanded the whole piece and gave it a good scrub down.  I highly recommend wearing one of these while you work!

Then I applied 2 coats of primer with this...

I was kind of freaking out when the desk looked like this after 2 coats ( T was at work, and I was very hesitant to send him this picture of my "progress" that he had been asking for)...

I then applied 2 coats of this (my new favorite - if you're looking to invest, I would recommend buying stock in Rust-Oleum...I will be keeping them in business) after letting the primer dry for 30 minutes...

To achieve the "distressed" look I was going for, I used the same sander shown above to lightly sand areas that would normally get distressed with use.  So, for example, these are the areas I did...

I ended up keeping the same hardware since I liked the antique look it gave the desk with the fresh white coat of paint!

And here's the final product...

Here's how we have it set up now (I decided to leave out T's tacky college desk chair that we're using currently but for some reason I kept the tacky book shelf)...

We are hoping to get matching book cases similar to these to go on either side of the desk (I fell in love with these new bookshelves Madeline has in her room from World Market when I was babysitting my favorite kiddos Saturday night!!!)...

And an accent chair similar to this one (except for most likely not this one since it's from a google image search...I wish every google image search came with a brand, price and an option to "add to cart"!)

Now on to the other piece we refinished for our office.  I convinced T to help me with this one, and he ended up having a great time!  I have the best fiance, and I love him SO much for always being such a great sport!

Here's the before picture...

Then came the fun part ( I used the same technique as before for this piece except for this time it was much more fun since I got to work with T and Gnarls!)...

We couldn't leave Gnarls out, so T made a classy barricade and he hung out in the back of the Jeep while we worked!

Here it was primed...

And here it is after with the new hardware we picked up from Lowe's!

Oh, and I could not have finished these pieces without this...

You attach it to the can so your hand doesn't get cramped and tired while you work!  GENIUS!

We really love how both pieces look in the office, and we can't wait to add more!  Overall it was a fun and productive weekend!  I spent my Friday off refinishing the desk, and then T and I went to see Harry Potter 7 that night.  It was a great movie that actually followed the book (for once)!  I also got to babysit for 2 of my favorite families - the Rosses and the Bradys this weekend which was tons of fun as usual.  Oh, and GO PACK!  T was loving life with all the NC State wins this weekend.  My personal favorite was seeing the Carolina fans and their pouty faces after the football game!

Hope y'all had a great weekend too!
